Dietrich Theater
JKR Partners Principal, Robert McCall attended the grand opening of the newly expanded and renovated Dietrich Theater in downtown Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. The Dietrich Theater was built in 1936 by George Dietrich and continued to show movies for nearly 50 years. In the late 1980's, the local theater could no longer compete with the mall movies, and the screen became dark. In 1998, concerned citizens purchased the theater. The theater reopened on April 13, 2001 as both a movie theater and community arts center. Production on the expansion began in September 2008, after three years of fundraising. The project also included two additional auditoriums, new concession, ticket booth, lobby and children’s room. The 4-screen Dietrich shows countless blockbuster, foreign, independent and classic films in the new auditoriums that feature stadium seating and state-of-the art sound. The addition of the new auditoriums allows the theater to be financially viable. The theater can now support and increase its array of community cultural programs.
